Really interesting to see that corporations are suddenly taking some action about hatred on their platforms. It& #39;s not enough and it& #39;s late, but I& #39;m mostly interested in why? What& #39;s changed? The legislative and govt landscape is more supportive of hate then ever, so why?...
This doesn& #39;t appear to be a flash in the pan - Reddit have banned a load of hate subreddits, Youtube seem to have banned people like Molyneux, Twitter finally dumped Hopkins & glinner - Twitch seem to have banned some people but I& #39;m not up to speed on the details there.
My immediate reaction is that they must, for want of a better way of putting it, be aware of the numbers. Presumably hatred is just not a good look for their bottom lines right now. I don& #39;t imagine it& #39;s particularly to do with subscribers etc as hate always motivates people...
You only need to see the amount of £££ anti-trans campaigns raise to see that (although that& #39;s likely from a very small number of people). I can only imagine it& #39;s a commercial driver, so perhaps its advertisers beginning to get a bit windy about being associated with it...
...does anyone have any better intel on this? The most likely explanation is commercials but who knows? I think we can safely rule out government intervention as thats probably less likely right now than ever. In fact it& #39;s more likely govts will intervene against this. Discuss?
