I moved from Denmark, where academia is treated as a normal job, to the UK, where it’s treated as a lifestyle.

No matter how many hours I work, I always feel it’s not enough. There’s always a colleague telling me I’m lazy or, in one case, “not Oxford material” because I refused to add to my workload in order to cover their teaching.
A big problem in academia, not just Oxford, is that people only seem to count research time as hours worked. They don’t think of all the teaching prep, admin, meetings, grant maintenance paperwork, etc.

We should all work together to change this system, let’s do it.
