Ings and xG.

A thread..

Firstly, I am a fan of the xG model, but not in isolation

You must watch games, and be familiar with a player’s style/ability because the xG model is one rule for all & not all players are the same
While it’s very accurate for large pools of players, it’s inaccurate for a few and that’s where the eye-test is needed

The following goals have low xG, but Ings has a knack for this style of goal as you quickly get a feel for, from just three examples

Data from @FantasyFootyFix
1. xG 0.06
2. xG 0.08
3. xG 0.15
Stats are wonderful. They have helped me heaps over the years, and I wouldn’t have done as well without them

But, without watching and understanding football, and studying the traits of players, I wouldn’t have done well either
You only have to take a look at Ings 2014/15 season with newly promoted Burnley (who were relegated) to see how much of a versatile finisher he is

His finishing ability is likely to overachieve on xG, and this is why you must watch games/footage before forumlating a decision
#FPL conclusion:

If you own him, keep and play him. Do not bench him. His ability allows him to score against the best (a diving header vs. Man. U in the above video prime example)

If you don’t own, buy him if you have no other fires to put out. Fixtures shouldn’t put you off
