Following last night’s @BBCCountryfile, we strongly disagree with anyone disputing the perception of people of colour that the English countryside is ‘a white environment’ (DEFRA, 2019).

Though the countryside is for everyone, much needs to be done for it to feel that way. https://twitter.com/BBCCountryfile/status/1277277327639154688
One example of an organisation delivering this work brilliantly is @WildintheCity1. They support the wellbeing of children & adults living or working in urban areas by promoting opportunities for enjoying nature and developing positive relationships with green spaces.
Another is @ColonialCountr1. This project, led by the @NationalTrust, explores how people of colour – who have always been part of the country’s rural life – have been omitted in how its heritage has been represented.
In the coming year, we’re going to be working with the artist Ingrid Pollard and the new AHRC-funded @ChangingNetwork to review our galleries & reflect on how the heritage of our rural landscapes is portrayed.

We will keep you updated on this when we have more to share!
