Recently, a topic that’s been hotly discussed is a unique feature of Jyotisha—the divisional charts.

I’d like to dispel a particular myth that’s been going around, and state unequivocally that the Nakshatras exist ONLY in the D1.
The divisional charts are magnifications of the D1, and this is achieved by dividing the Signs of the Zodiac into equal parts.

These divisions are known as Amshas.

One of the most well known divisional charts—the D9—is also known as the Navamsha chart.

Nava: 9
Amsha: Division
The Nakshatra wheel coexists with the Zodiac wheel, but the individual Amshas—or divisions of the Signs of the Zodiac—do not include the Nakshatras.

Thus, a visual representation (divisional chart) of the positions of the Grahas in their Amshas would not include the Nakshatras.
Taking this logic a little further, Bhavas (Houses)—and by extension, Yogas—exist only in the D1.

The divisional charts are primarily used in assessments involving the concept of Vargottama—or Pushkara Navamshas in the D9—which indicate planetary strength with respect to the D1.
