How I made Ezekiel's character-- a thread
I remember having a rough idea of the plot and Ezekiel wasn't part of it. With time, I started drawing various characters all regarding the System and once I noted on my sketchbook some characteristics of one particular alter: he needed to be Oliver counterpart.
I imagined him as someone with a "dark/emo" style, various addictions and his peculiarity was based not only on the fact that he was the only "dark" character in the entire plot but also because was hated by everyone due to his aggressive behavior. Therefore, the plot was all -
about the contrast between Oliver and this alter (whose name was Atlas) causing a sort of internal battle that would have developed later in the story in a path of discovery of the self. Then, one day (aka 27th February 2020) I was cleaning up my old notes with the idea of -
finding some good springboards to "making something out" of that plot and I stumbled upon some notes regarding Atlas. I personally hated him (still do) and I had no intention to maintain him as a character. Later on I sketched Oliver playing with a new OC (had not the faintest -
idea about his function, but F I N E ) that I made right on the spot; his features were really similar to Oliver's and I despised the overall look because "it didn't spark joy" (as Marie Kondo would have said). So I erased the entire canvas. But then, looking at those notes I -
just asked myself "What if I integrate them into this new character I just made?" And this is how actually Ezekiel basic traits and appearance were made: matching two OCs that didn't spark joy (poor Ez).Of course most of the original ideas have been trashed, first of all the -
original design, I kept the controversial attitude of Ezekiel and some of his addictions. But yet I wasn't happy about the result, cause Ezekiel was just a really dark character whose purpose was to balance out the sweetness of the entire Rockington world. I was looking for -
inspiration scrolling for hours on IG and then, I found it: a quote of Stan Lee (that I later checked-- just in case- on more reliable sources) regarding Iron Man. It said: "I thought it would be fun to take the kind of character that nobody would like, none of our readers would-
like, and shove him down their throats and make them like him...". It was PERFECT. I completely applied this quote with enthusiasm on Ezekiel and in that moment I realized I had made a character that I would have ended up loving and hating at the same time. Guess what? IT EXACTLY
WENT LIKE THAT. Yes... That idiot is great. Hope you enjoyed this thread, let me know which character of "ChAnge" should I make next and have a wonderful time!💛💛
