This is how *theoretically* #mufc can make the Top 4 by the end of the season:
Have deliberately left out Sheffield Utd, Spurs and Arsenal (yes I included them with a straight face) because unless any of them win 7 out of 7, which is incredibly unlikely, they are not in the picture to qualify.
Will summarise at the end of this thread what the points situation would look like if things went according to these predictions.
Manchester United - To have any realistic chance, we have to win minimum 6 out of 7. Ambitious to maintain the winning streak but realistic given the opponents and our new creative and attacking firepower. Key fixture is the head to head v Leicester in what could be the decider.
Chelsea - They’re the best placed to finish Top 4 after their win against City. For us to have any chance to overtake them, they’ll need to draw a couple and have a loss somewhere. Liverpool our best hope but possible they try young players by that point. Wolves game is the key.
Leicester - They represent Utd’s best chance with their free-falling form (8 losses, 5 draws and 7 wins in their last 20). Vardy has 3 goals in 15 games, they’re really struggling, can see them only winning a couple now until the end. Utd need to be within 2 pts on the final day.
Wolves - Seemingly a threat to break into the Top 4 but their gritty results may only get them so far. Only scored 4 goals in their 3 wins. They’ll draw several of their games and maybe even an unexpected loss. If Utd keep winning, Wolves should not be the side to worry about.
If results go as predicted, Chelsea will be level on points with Utd meaning Top 4 could go down to goal difference. If Leicester’s run is as predicted (54 points), Utd would need 16 pts in their 7 games and Utd would finish 4 points ahead if they win 6 inc. Leicester away.
Ideally United need Sheffield Utd, Crystal Palace or Arsenal to do them some favours. They face our Top 4 competitiors in the run-in. All in all, if United keep winning, the Top 4 race should in theory be wide open right until the final day. Now it’s a tense waiting game. #mufc
