I get concerned about just how little we as a community at large understand autism and how it presents. More often than not you won’t ever notice that someone is autistic but it affects how they behave socially and I’m scared of how we respond to them, we’re a danger to them.
If society was a lot more patient and kind that wouldn’t be so much of a problem but we have expectations of how people should behave and respond and we are aggressive when those aren’t meant, that puts autistic individuals at increased risk, it scares me.
It’s why what happened to Elijah McClain is extra sickening to me. He’s someone society was meant to communally protect, instead he got murderered. It’s so fucked.
