San Antonio has 41 comprehensive district high schools (depending on how you count). Does anyone want to guess how many are named after people of color? I was curious. So I researched. One. Just one.
(Apologies in advance for any high school I missed in any of these counts)

@JudsonISD& #39;s Wagner High School is named for Army Lt. Col Karen Wagner, a military veteran who died at the Pentagon on Sept 11. https://www.texasmonthly.com/articles/karen-wagners-life/">https://www.texasmonthly.com/articles/...
Of the remaining 40, nine are named for their district, neighborhood, or a concept, i.e. Memorial HS in Edgewood.
Three others, O& #39;Connor, Stacey, and Johnson HS are named for white women.

Now, you may ask, tell us about those 28 white men.
Did any enslave people? Jay, Marshall, Jefferson, Madison, Houston.

. @NISD names high schools after SCOTUS Justices, so I& #39;d always assumed the Marshall in question was Thurgood, the first Black justice who famously argued Brown v Board before joining.
It is not. It& #39;s John...who was apparently a nice guy and great legal mind. And owned people.

In 2017, we remember @NEISD did rename Robert E. Lee, but instead of going with Spike Lee, Ang Lee, Harper Lee, Amy Freeman Lee, Sheila Jackson Lee...they opted to rebrand with Legacy of Educational Excellence. https://therivardreport.com/lee-high-schools-new-name-has-a-familiar-ring/">https://therivardreport.com/lee-high-...
It bears mentioning that in @SAISD, the student body is 97.6 percent non-white and yet they have the, by far the most outspoken group of white supremacist names on high schools. Not one SAISD HS is named for a woman or person of color.
