#SkinTheDocumentary
About Eku Edewor, I noticed that a lot of persons are not particularly happy with her being light skinned and sharing the challenges that come with being halfcaste in her Industry.

You feel she should shut up because YOU believe she has “fair skin privilege”?
Let me explain something to us, this is not a case of “me too”. It’s a case of colourism and she is also a black woman of mixed origin.

Imagine being told to keep quiet about genuine problems you have encountered because someone else has their own problems? She matters too.
In the verge to advocate for our rights, sometimes we turn to become exactly what we were preaching against.
Some persons have advocated against racism so much that they themselves have become racist.

Yes, a black can be racist too. Same goes for colourism and tribalism.
For the benefit of those who couldn’t look beyond the colour of her skin and perceived privilege to hear what she was saying...
Here’s what her interview was about,
Being black, but being denied roles Cos you’re not “black enough. African looking enough”, Cos she’s halfcaste!
It’s not about being light, Cos other light skinned non mixed Africans will get the role. But being that casting is stereotyped, she has to settle for other roles (Maybe like Returnee or butter pikin), when she’d rather want to play a strong black woman.
A strong black woman mustn’t be BLACK SKINNED!
@BeverlyNaya was trying to create a balance in her advocacy.

If we must speak out, we must speak out for everyone. She might not have captured all, but it was a good start.

Be careful not to be what you are preaching against.
Eku spoke her own truth, don’t shut her up, just Cos you think your own pain is more.

You don’t have the pain gauge. I remember wanting to play a lead role in a drama, my only ‘crime’ was not having butt. So, I couldn’t pass for a mum, it pained me😭. Now hot Mums are trendy.
I think the media also has a huge role to play in shattering stereotypes.

I am a dark-skinned African and have had my fair share of “Colourism”, but that won’t let me ignore the pain of my sister who is light skinned.

She didn’t bleach to be halfcaste, colourism affects her too
These are my thoughts on the matter, if you have watched #SkinTheDocumentary, kindly let me know what you though about @EkuEdewor’s interview.

In all I enjoyed watching #SkinNetflix so much that I watched it twice. Had me in my feelings too. Well done @BeverlyNaya and team.
