A lot of people confuse the #GamesIndustry with the #GamesMedia. The AAA games industry sees games media as an unofficial arm of their marketing department. That's why they feel betrayed when a game is given a negative review, it's Games Media's job to ADVERTISE their product.
This dates back to enthusiast magazines who were most often indirectly sponsored or directly run by Games Publishers.

The era of "Entitled Gamers" came from reviewers who were NOT a part of this cycle and didn't care to advertise the product, but rather ACTUALLY review it.
Most of this is NOT ofa reflection on "Games Media" or "Games Press" itself, this is a reflection on the Games Industry and Games Media dichotomy. Basically there's conflicting expectations between Games Publishers and the outlet's audience who want to believe what they read.
My thoughts:
#1 - They are not the same.
#2 - Reviewers are human, that means corrupt or not, they will likely view things from a different prospective than you.
#3 - Don't blindly believe what you read.
#4 - Do not prescribe to malice that which can be explained by stupidity.
At least 3 of those thoughts apply to this thread as well.
