So if you want to cut funding of summat so you can spend more money on social care & mental health services, lets cut foreign aid shall we? Not so many takers for this idea Im guessing. Why? Bc there is no virtue-signalling capital to be accrued from flogging this idea.
& thats whats this is all about. The idea that you help black ppl or ppl with MH probs, or anyone for that matter, by de-funding the Police is utter nonsense but the ppl advancing these ideas are not actually genuinely interested in helping anyone. This is about signalling.

They remind me of the anti-psych movement of 1960s/70s who argued that Psychiatry was oppressive but ended up preparing the ground for Thatcher/Reagan to slash funding for MH services in 1980s resulting in societal neglect of the mentally ill. Useful idiots for libertarian-right
I work in Psychiatric services. Ive read about the anti-Psychiatry movement & thats who these ppl arguing that we should defund/abolish the police remind me of. Useful idiots for the libertarian-right, all.
Btw, slight tangent, if you want to read a searing critique of the anti-Psychiatry movement then this is THE book to read. Cant recommend it highly enough tbh.
