Jesus. I have just read Gove's Ditchley lecture and I am frothing.

"Can we demonstrate the effectiveness of what we have done with other people’s money?" he asks.

No. You've wasted billions of it.
"Can we prove that the regulations and agencies we have established have made clear, demonstrable, measurable, improvements to the lives of others?"

No. Over 60k more people are dead than needed to have been because of your government's ineptitude.
He invokes the spirit of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the New Deal.

This from a man whose party inflicted a decade of unnecessary austerity on the UK, driving dissatisfaction and division, and who then led one of the most divisive and mendacious political campaings in history.
For me what this speech makes clear is the depth of Gove's delusion and intellectual narcissism. Clearly, it's his job to "sell" the Cummings project to those naturally suspicious of it.

And senior UK journalists are tweeting this stuff out in admiration. Jesus wept.
It is also, of course, a campaign speech.

Take note.
"For many decades now we have neglected to ensure that
senior members of the civil service have all the basic skills
required to serve government, and our citizens, well."

Presumably that's why they've just ousted Sedwill and appointed Brexit nodding-dog David Frost, then.
The entire speech is AWFULLY familiar to anyone who has read Cummings' tedious pseudoscientific education rant "Some Thoughts on Education and Political Priorities".

And we know what a success Gove and Cummings made with their education brief...
But as a wise man once said, "by their fruits you shall know them".
"We should also be fearless to compare individual courts, judges and CPS managers on their efficacy on processing cases..."

...And here it is. Pay attention to the small print, folks.
"the machinery of government is no longer equal to the challenges of today."

And all to be carried out in the name of the people.
"But I know we can do better, we can redeem souls..."

He's even overtly Messianic in some places.

When politicians start to talk like this, all of us need to be afraid.
