I have something to get off my chest. From November 2018 onwards, I started working at @SwarajyaMag as an idealistic young person, hoping to contribute my best towards the nationalist cause. For the initial 4-5 months I worked as an intern, thereafter I was regularised as a staff
writer at the company with a proper contract. Towards Nov-Dec 2019, I decided to switch jobs and told @amargov about my intention who told me that he would not accept accept my resignation. He said that I needed to at least put another 3 months before the company let me go. But
my contract had no such stipulation so I told them no, and intimated the ceo @prasannavishy as well as amar via email that I wanted to exit the company in 2 weeks. The company gave me no response but I kept on working for that time period to the best of my ability. After leaving
, I got in touch with @amargov about my unpaid dues for those 2 weeks as well as some unpaid stipend from when I was an intern (which they had promised to pay me). His dismissive response was a complete shocker for me. He said that since I had not listened to his diktat to not
quit the company, the company would not pay my dues (almost 25K). I politely mentioned to him that sir, the contract had no stipulation of a notice period and I had from my own goodwill given them a two weeks notice period. He responded that he would look into it, but for several
days there was no response from him or the company. I finally decided to send him a notice via email about unpaid dues, saying that I would have no recourse but to approach a court if my dues were not paid. Yet, there was no response from him or from Kovai media Ltd, which is the
parent company of Swarajya. At that point I had joined a new, very hectic job, and I planned to take some leave to pursue legal action against Swarajy, but lo and behold, the corona crisis hit us before I could really pursue that. Between a busy schedule adjusting to my new job
and the Corona lockdown, I have till now been unable to pursue a lawsuit against Kovai media ltd. Eventually, I plan to hopefully do so, but the point is, that under the control of @prasannavishy and @amargov Swarajya has turned into an outlet which exploits and takes advantage
of young graduates/students. If senior mediapersons who claim to represent a revolution against the corrupt practises of mainstream media act like this against 22-23 year old graduates fresh out of college, is there really any hope for journalism and fair political commentary in
this country? What's more, Swarajya's dismissive and exploitative behaviour towards its employees, especially freshers, also extended to the point where they would delay salaries by several days to more than week. Condescending comments towards me and other young guys at the
office were very common, but because of the lopsided power equation, we couldn't do anything about it. Swarajya is a loaded organisation folks, they are funded to the tune of several crores a year. It is not possible that they couldn't pay salaries to their new and vulnerable
employees on time and have still not paid my dues after more than 6 months. What's more, they are now milking honest right wing donors for more money through Patreon and have already gotten a commitment of more than $5,000 a month. This is not an organisation which is
cash-strapped folks. They have wilfully defaulted on my paying their most vulnerable employees out of sheer vindictiveness. This is not the kind of right wing media we need in this country. It gives a terrible name to the whole movement and discourages young guys like me. Please
Retweet this thread and bring it to the notice of the powers that be, so that justice may be done. 25K may not be such a big amount, but when it is a matter of principle, it certainly becomes a huge deal. I hope to receive the support and well wishes of all honest and
right-thinking folks, so that the truth can get out and so that no other young employees would have to go through this nightmarish scenario that I have had to go through.
@burmavaram @bija_hem hope to get some support on this guys.
