The online art community is way too US-centric to the point where most resources for prices and taxes aren’t helpful if you live outside ‘murica. Also every discourse have to abide by American POVs. For example what defines as “indie” comics is not the same everywhere. https://twitter.com/arvalis/status/1277332671450894337
when there was discourse about what is a “zine” was mainly led by Americans who have their own way of making zines and see them more as a group collaboration project for a hard bound book. While here in Sweden, a zine is when you print a little booklet containing your own works.
And the anger and backlash coming from American artists when they saw a twitter post showing how to put together a little booklet zine at home - because that is what a lot of countries consider a zine to be - was honestly appalling and disrespectful.
Also the assumption that tipping culture is universal when it is a *very* American thing.
You know there is a problem when I know more art schools over in the states than what art schools there is *in my own fkn country*.
Also another thing; there has been a lot of exposure of toxic ppl in the art community. Which is good. But the problem is that it’s mainly ppl within American art circles, so any predators or scammers or abusers outside of that realm go unnoticed.
It is a problem that since there is so many countries, we turn to America as the “global hub”. So our resources, advices, idols, discourses, heads-ups, are all on the basis of a mainly American/western ground.
And like, I don’t know a solution to this. Other than ppl being more aware about it.
