Ayò, this tweet has made it to my TL a good number of times & I've continued to ignore it cos there are so many triggering faux points in the entire thread.

Now lemme tell you something. There are many facets to a war, many principal players. You cannot consider the war without https://twitter.com/AyoBankole/status/1277204969654009858
considering what led to it & the aftermath. It's all part of a war, the provocations & the repercussions. Some people were principal players in the provocations, some in the war itself, some in the repercussions.

Lemme tell you one thing right now though, you can never fault
"Biafra" for instigating the war if you have read enough history books & understand everything that happened pre-war & in the 1st couple of months of the war.

- consider the pogroms in the North.

- consider Gowon reneging on the Aburi accord after he was made to understand
that what he agreed to at Aburi was "detrimental" to the survival of the North

- consider that Ojukwu did not mount the 1st offensive

- consider that this war was never fought in the North; the entire war was fought in the East, & only a very tiny part of the West saw this
War.

- consider that food blockade is never a weapon of war! It is inhumane & unfair & criminal.

- consider that unarmed women & children were killed all over Biafra; unofficial figures peg that at over 3 million.

- consider that in the aftermath of the war, the Nigerian
govt sought the stifle the growth & rebuild of the East as much as they could through so many unfavourable economic policies (the indigenization policy a case in point)

- consider the £20 saga that they've tried to spin in so many different explanations.
- consider that even after the war had ended, Nigerian soldiers continued to fish out biafran soldiers in their homes & hideouts to kill them; a move "sanctioned" by the Nigerian govt through their silence & inaction.

- consider that till date, restitution has not been made.
A people cannot truly heal from perceived injustice until restitution has been made.

Again, I think that maybe, it's time to change the name of this event from "the biafran war" or "the Nigerian civil war" to "THE BIAFRAN GENOCIDE"
Maybe only then will the right things be done.

There was nothing "civil" about that "war". Nothing at all.

And hey, no matter how you want to paint it, we will never see Ojukwu as a traitor.

When you've had over 100,000 of your people killed in a particular region, with the
Govt obviously blatantly refusing to do anything about it, maybe then you'll understand what provocation means.

The defence the North & the West always come up with is "the Igbo coup".

This has been debunked extensively since the event.

And let's even consider that it was
truly an igbo coup, the counter-coup more than revenged for this perceived igbo coup; however, did the northern soldiers stop at that?

After General Aguiyi Ironsi was killed, did the northern soldiers accept that power be handed over to Brigadier Babafemi Ogundipe who was the
next highest ranking officer to Ironsi at the time? No!

Did innocent Igbo soldiers have to lose their lives in the aftermath of the counter-coup? It was unnecessary!

Did Igbo civilians have to be killed after the coup? It was unnecessary!

These are questions that need to be
answered.

One of the participants of this "Igbo coup", Adewale Ademoyega, a westerner, had this to say about the coup in his book 👇👇
The screenshots below best explain exactly what we've been dealing with in this country.

There's paranoia all over the place.

Can the country ever truly be united?

Ayò, until restitution is made, I fear not.
