I've just finished reading @NaturalistDara's Diary of a Young Naturalist published by @LittleToller books. I purchased it directly from them and is the first book I've ever 'pre-ordered'. I am glad I did. There is such beauty in this book, such insights that are often ignored.
These insights are rich in a number of areas, a young adult's passion and interest in the more-than-human world; the combinations he brings with both the arts (his beautiful writing and expression) and sciences (which informs his love of all nature). Further, insights into how
autism is lived. Not as a bolt-on, not as a problem, but as a beautiful way of being that moves beyond the limiting social constructs that stop clear and honest expression. There is such a value in reading this text and to learn from one who is younger - the vivid description of
connectedness to nature and questioning the way we live is such a striking element of this book. It makes it worthy of being on any reading list in higher education concerned with education, human connection to nature, outdoor learning and ecological education.
This is a text that serves as warning, as insight and as a triumph of not just youth, but of wisdom - of ecological wisdom. I am glad I took the time to read it slowly and carefully. It has been such a rich experience. Great work @NaturalistDara @LittleToller
