Should I make a thread of my favorite curly hair products?
First, here’s a little hair transformation & a back story:
I started my curly hair journey in September of 2017. That’s when I decided it was time to embrace my natural hair & do what I can to take care of it & fix the years of heat damage. Growing up, I absolutely hated (cont.)

my hair. I grew up around a lot of people who didn’t look like me so all I dreamed of was having silky straight hair like that. I started to straighten my hair consecutively, especially on occasions. This was all the way until about my third year of college. (cont.)
After 3 months I saw no difference due to the dead ends I had. I ended up getting a haircut which was major for me. I was always used to having extremely long hair with occasional trims but I knew it was the only way to save my curls. I ended up seeing a major difference (cont.)
I already felt like my hair was healthier but I knew it was still early on. I continued being consistent in my routine & saw major differences & changes. It definitely takes time & can be really frustrating but the best thing I can tell you is be patient because it’s worth it!
Okay so before my wash day, I do a pre-mask/oil treatment to help make my hair shiny. I see a huge difference it I don’t do this. My mask is basically yogurt, olive oil, honey, & castor oil. Sometimes if I’m not lazy I’ll microwave the concoction to make sure it all mixes.
I scrub this in my scalp. The #1 focus for healthy hair is a healthy scalp! Your scalp is basically like the skin on your face & you should be taking care of it just as much! I leave the mask in my hair for about 30-60 mins. Then I start my wash and go routine.
I also wanna add that my hair is about a type 3b/mostly 3c hair. Be familiar with your hair & the thickness of it. What works for me may not work for you!!
First I’ll start off with a scalp scrub. This one is my favorite! It makes your hair feel so clean & refreshed after.
Then I’ll go in with my shampoo. This is hands down my favorite shampoo & I almost always use a scalp massager to make sure my hair is fully clean of any build up or oil that could be left in. It also feels & smells amazing

Then I’ll go in with my conditioner which is also my favorite & is amazing. Make sure you condition your scalp as well! While the conditoner is in my hair, I’ll start detangling with a brush like this. I find these to be gentle on curly hair.
Then, I rinse the conditioner out & do another hair mask. This is deep conditioning. I lather this in my hair and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes or as long as possible. These are my go-tos (esp the green one).
Right before I step out of the shower, a major thing I do that has made such a differ is rinsing out the deep conditioner with COLD water with my head flipped upside down.
When you rinse your hair normally from the top, you’re essentially weighing it down. Flipping your head upside down helps with volume! Also the cold water allows your hair to hold the moisture and causes less frizz.
The #1 thing you must do is dry your hair with a t-shirt. DO NOT use a towel!! This will cause so much frizz bc your hair is rubbing against it!!
While styling, your hair shouldn’t be soaking wet. You will struggle to get volume. & shouldn’t be completely dry because you can be harsh. Your hair should be damp. I usually wait about 30-60 mins. If you feel like your hair is too dry, use a spray bottle to re-dampen.
I typically start off by sectioning my hair & lightly applying my leave in conditioner to each section. I usually like something a little thicker like these which is why they are “deep” conditioners. My hair is more thick & I could get away with just this product in my hair.
Most of the time I will skip this step but if i’m not lazy i’ll use a curl defining cream. I would recommend if you are starting out & your curls aren’t as defined yet!
I’ll add this because I know a lot of people love this product. But, I have a love hate relationship with it
I used to love it in the beginning of my transition but now my hair hates it! My hair has grown to hate products with coconut & becomes so dry, so I try to stay away.

After my leave-in, I’ll brush my hair with the same paddle brush from before to make sure it’s fully de tangled. I brush also while applying the leave in. Then I’ll go in & scrunch with a mousse. Do not run the mousse through your hair! You might not get as much definied curls.
These are some mousses I like. The aussie one is my favorite by far. The cake one is a little thicker so I wouldn’t recommend if you have lighter hair.
If I need extra hold (especially in the summer) I’ll usually opt for a gel over a mousse. My fave rn is aussie. I also love bouncecurl but shes a little pricey. EcoStyle is heavier for if you need super hold.
I definitely prefer to air dry over diffuse bc im lazy lol. I would recommend diffusing if you need more volume. I usually let my hair airdry or put in a ponytail. I like silk scrunchies and you can buy a huge bulk on amazon thats super inexpensive
I also love to sleep with a satin/silk pillowcase. If you struggle with frizz, I would recommend doing this and/or sleeping with a silk hair wrap or bonnet.
If I sleep with a bonnet, my curls are usually good the next day & I usually just need to fluff them out. If i need to refresh I’ll usually just put some conditioner and water in a spray bottle & refresh with that #lowmaintenance
Usually I’m good for about a week with this routine. I’ll probably restyle my hair in the middle of the week if necessary. I would also recommend washing your hair as little as possible! 1-2 times a week! Your natural oils need to spread throughout your hair.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk
