My sis was in an extremely toxic, abusive relationship once w/a former classmate of mine. He hit & choked her, threatened her life, threatened his own life, did/sold drugs out of her house, eventually went to prison. Friends decided to take his side & stopped talking to me. (1/?)
I thought "good", I don't need friends like that. Who would side with some shit like that? That's my sister. I focused on Twitch and their affiliate program and wanted to be like the positive influences I saw in the Twitch partner program. I was dedicated to entertaining. (2/?)
And so, I found someone who I looked up to, who had obviously seen some hard times, and who I appreciated when they told me they were my friend. "Love you like a brother," I was told regularly. They helped me get a leg up when it came to viewers and streaming ideas. (3/?)
They never spoke to me outside of their broadcast, save for a few occasions. I was expected to initiate conversation if I ever wanted to talk. He ignored his community's Discord. It was okay, because he was busy and had a lot on his plate. Lots of networking. (4/?)
So, when I had a problem with a female viewer of mine coming to me for help with depression seemingly every stream, I was a bit shocked when he responded by calling her a bitch, a slut, and offering to send me some private photographs intended for him. (5/?)
I'm not proud of my response, or keeping it a secret (he told me to keep a lot of things secrets). But I am proud that I declined and I'm proud that I left my shitty friends behind. (6/6)
Interesting interpretation. Don't punch too many holes in your drywall over it.
