Chief Littlechild once attended residential schools. Decades later in 2007, he helps draft the UN Declaration on Indigenous Rights.

@jkenney was serving as Secretary of State - Multiculturalism & Canadian Identity & watched as 144 UN members ratify it

(THREAD)
Canada is shockingly 1 of 4 countries who didn't ratify.

It's mindblowing with that history in mind, to see @jkenney name drop Chief Littlechild while refusing to #FireBunner
Mr. Canada Doesn't Need To Honour Indigenous Rights In A Non-binding UN Resolution is using a victim of residential schools to downplay racism involving residential schools.
Sure, perhaps this just wasn't his focus. Kenney was the Chair of the Subcomitee investigatng Human Rights at the time, but this UN thing probably didn't get on his radar.

I wonder, has this issue ever been on @jkenney's radar??
To get a sense for how involved he's been on Indigenous issues, @jkenney is on record in Parliament using the word "Indigenous" 11 times in his entire time there. All of those instances relate to indigenous people in OTHER countries.

See: https://openparliament.ca/search/?prepend=MP%3A+%22jason-kenney%22&q=Indigenous
What about how many times @jkenney has used "racism"?

Also 11 times.

Relating to issues around anti-Semitism, Anti-Chinese, Anti-Sikh, anti-Black, Anti-TFW. And a few hopes and dreams, talk-but-no-action speeches using the word.

Not a single reference to Indigenous people.
So is it just a small world after all?

Or is @jkenney just playing 3D racism chess?
If Bunner is fired, will this be the first anti-racist thing @jkenney will have ever actually initiated himself & then followed through on while in office?

Is that what's taking so long?
The braintrust lead by @MattWolfAB can't explain the reversal after all the stubborn trolling that's been done all week?

Literally WHAT DO YOU EVEN DO, MATT?

This should be easy.

Swallow pride. Fire him. Apologize.
Chief Littlechild is really a remarkable man w/ an amazing life story.

Look him up.

I'll end this w/ a DIRECT quote of his

( no paraphrasing gymnastics )

"there is no place in Canada for the attitudes that inspired the Indian residential schools system to ever again prevail"
Couple quick things to add:

PM Trudeau made sure Canada signed on to the UN Declaration in 2016.

Lastly, if you have any doubt about how local Indigenous leaders feel about Bunner, please see: https://twitter.com/ct6fn_/status/1276739271588589568
