WEEKEND FINDRAISER: These past few weeks a huge number of museums and cultural institutions have cut staff, and this past week my own museum issued layoffs. It's really awful to witness layoffs at all, and it's especially difficult when we're all so isolated from each other.
At my museum we quickly created a FB group for us to gather online to grieve and shower each other with love and affection. It's been a really heartwarming spot in an otherwise heartbreaking week.
This weekend I'm asking folks to donate to @MuseumWorkers’s Relief Fund. They're issuing $500 grants to museum workers experiencing any form of financial hardship right now.
In past distributions they've given priority to Black and Indigenous workers, as well as public facing staff who are often POC and are at greater risk of exposure to COVID as museum around the country begin to reopen.
However you feel about museums and their colonial, violent history, I hope you'll be able to support the workers who show up every day.
And to all my queer, trans, nonbinary and gender nonconforming colleagues who have been hit by layoffs, furloughs, and other hardships: I'm so sorry. I hope this Pride weekend you're able to surround yourself in love, community and joy.
Starting off this thread is a collection of artworks by LGBTQ artists at the @artinstitutechi. As before, info on the name, date, artist and link to the Art Institute website is commented on each image on FB.
27 people have already contribute a total of $927!! WOW!!! We’re so close to 30 people. Help us get there!!
