How many captaincy points do you need to win #FPL?

At the end of last year I took notice of the fact that the winner of FPL had 24% of his total FPL points scored by his captain, and he had a big Triple Captain haul from Aguero included in that number...
Even though it felt like 24% was very good I couldn't draw too many conclusions because of lack of other winners to compare with.

But instead I decided to have a look at the top 4 in the world currently as of GW31, (almost a full season), I found that they all have 24-26% C pts.
This leads me to believe that 24% is a good number to aim for. But what can we do to reach it?

If you're good at captaincy then you can swap between many players during a season and still get a similar score. But for less talented captainers, is there an easier strategy?
I don't like overthinking my captaincy decision, but have found myself doing just that this season.

Last season it would have been a great strategy to always give the armband to Sterling & Salah, (the highest FPL scorers that year) whoever had the home fixture, the other got VC.
But the problem of course is that we don't know who will score the most points over the course of a season.

Sterling bagged a hat trick at the start of this season which led us to believe he would be a prime captaincy option for the rest of the season.
But sticking with Sterling C too long this season would not have been a great route to take. Instead KDB has taken Sterling's place as MCI's highest FPL scorer and the one from City who matches Salah in the overall score.
So how would we have done if we would have always captained KDB and Salah with focus on captaining the home player?

Assuming we triple captained Salah for the DGW24, which many did, a strategy of KDB & Salah armband rotation would have resulted in 510 points from our captains.
510 C Points happens to be just the score where the top 4 in the world has right now roughly.

So what's the conclusion?

For me it strengthens the logic behind the saying I see around twitter "When in doubt, I captain Salah". And it should apply especially to his home games!
Salah has been the highest scorer in FPL the last two seasons and he could become it for the third time in a row.

"Captain Salah in every home game" isn't a profound conclusion. But maybe it could be a guideline which helps with less overthinking.
Thanks for reading and let me hear what you think!

Would you use this simple guideline in your decision making process, or does it lack the flexibility that you want?

Sidenote if you're interested: The average of the last FPL 5 winner scores is 2532 points.
