People have made much of female leaders doing a better job of dealing with #COVID19. There are some exceptions that break the rule, mainly male leaders that have also done a good job. Here's another take...
Have smaller countries done a better job of dealing with #COVID19? New Zealand, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, etc.

Where as many countries with populations over 50m have made a hash of it, the UK, the US, Italy, France, Spain...
Smaller countries seem to suffer less from the affliction of toxic nationalism, which can often leader to populist leaders. They have small militaries, so don't have any imperial ambitions (least not these days), so tend to have less ambitious opinions of their place in the world
or deluded, bloated ideas of self worth. So, you end up with more sensible governments.

There are exceptions to this rule as well, of course, Belgium and Sweden are two smaller countries that have made a bit of a hash of their #COVID19 response
Some big countries have done well, also. China, Germany, Vietnam.

China did well because of it's ability and decision to impose a draconian lockdown. Germany, perhaps, because of their history, suffers less from toxic nationalism and had a scientist for a leader
(oh, also forgot Brazil, of course, in the list of large countries with a populist leader who've had a disastrous #COVID19 response)
Smaller countries also seem not to be of interest to malignant influences such as Murdoch, who have helped populist leaders thrive in larger countries and damaged the societies of countries such as ours, as the money isn't there for them,
Anyway, I'd say, although it's not universal, that smaller countries have coped better with this #COVID19 crisis

So...is about 5m population the optimum size for a country to be for health & well being of it's pop, perhaps?...Something for the Scottish to think about.. #Scotland
As a casual observation, countries with a population of around 5m also seem to be wealthier with more content and happy populations and cohesive societies, Denmark, Sweden, FInland, Norway, Ireland, New Zealand
Anyway, this thread wasn't planned and a bit messy, but I think I made the points
