little soc. psych session muna tayo
there are surfacing videos wherein some u.s. citizens deliberately refuse to wear masks, they go as far as trying to convince people that there is no need to wear masks though officials and medical experts have already implemented the mandatory use of face masks. +
in contrast, it seems rare for us here in the phil. to question the wearing of face masks and it's not because we believe in journal articles more than they do.

the collectiveness or individuality of a culture may contribute in this striking contrast
having a collectivist culture, we find it easier as filipinos to comply since we do not define our identity by solely ourselves. when we do things, we think of how it could affect others.

for the americans who are considered more individualistic, their identity is rarely +
defined by others, even those close to them.

actions done by people of individualist cultures are believed to be the best for themselves, not minding what is good for others +
this thread does not intend to dictate whether one type of culture is better than the other

this is an attempt to understand why such differences of responding are present though faced with the same dilemma +
i learned this from my social psych class, and i hope sharing what i have learned may be found useful regardless of whether you're a psych major or not.
