I’m going to assume that anyone who isn’t interested in the trials and tribulations of Scottish football has already unfollowed me (who can blame them?!) and post a monster thread on the latest developments; and why I think the @SPFL is behaving so improperly. (1/16)
I haven’t lost all sense of perspective though, and I know that there are bigger things going on in the world – you should all still be playing your part to help eliminate the coronavirus AND you should all also be throwing your weight behind the BLM movement. (2/16)
So – yesterday it came to light that @JamTarts and @PartickThistle have asked that Wednesday’s court hearing be broadcast live so that the watching world can form their own conclusions. The @SPFL have asked for that not to happen. Who do you think has something to hide? (3/16)
And then it transpired that Neil Doncaster had written to all 42 member clubs – IN THE MIDST OF AN ONGOING LEGAL PROCEEDING(!) – to essentially request that they all formally support the “promoted” clubs, in the fight against those clubs who have been demoted. (4/16)
The recommendation of the @SPFL is that the court refers the matter to the @ScottishFA – so that they can draw a conclusion. Neil Doncaster, the Chief Executive of the SPFL, IS ALSO ON THE BOARD OF THE SFA(!) – How can that be seen as a fair and reasonable suggestion? (5/16)
The @SPFL is supposed to be a members organisation that acts impartially on behalf of all 42 clubs – how can it be okay that they have publicly, and aggressively, taken the side of the “promoted” clubs over those that they have so unjustifiably expelled from their leagues? (6/16)
But more to the point – why is the rest of Scottish football sitting so idly by, whilst this gross injustice, which has been laced with corruption from start to finish, is allowed to happen? I think a few clubs need to be specifically called out on this part… (7/16)
In 2012 - @dundeeunitedfc decided that they would be the self-appointed custodians of “sporting integrity”. I actually agreed with their stance, mostly, at the time. But where is their take on sporting integrity right now? (8/16)
No reasonable person can think that promoting teams that didn’t win their leagues, at the expense of teams who didn’t deserve to be relegated, upholds any kind of integrity. It removes sporting merit from any success, and if you don’t earn your win, what’s the point? (9/16)
Anyway, it looks like they’re about to appoint Malky Mackay as their new Manager so best of luck with that one! (10/16)
In Glasgow, @CelticFC have always taken a stance as a righteous club who look out for those who have been wronged. Hence their support for Palestine, for example. How can they portray themselves as righteous when this miscarriage of justice is happening on their doorstep? (11/16)
Is it okay to ignore because it keeps them on track for 10 in a row? Is #10IAR the goal at all costs? Would it even matter if other clubs went out of business – through no fault of their own – as long as #10IAR stays on track? Their silence on this has been shameful. (12/16)
There’s @DundeeFC, @RaithRovers and many other clubs who have acted terribly. Frankly, any club that voted to end the leagues and/or voted against reconstruction should feel ashamed. You have directly contributed towards the laughing stock that our game has become. (13/16)
So many leagues across Europe are now finishing their seasons on the pitch and teams are winning titles, cups and everything else on merit. Why are we different? Why did we go down this route? We can only hope that the wrongs of this process will be put right in court… (14/16)
Tribalism and self-interest absolutely has to be put to the side if Scottish football is ever going to be run in a fair way. And yes – as a Hearts fan I obviously feel particularly strongly about this, and I wouldn’t be so vocal if my club wasn’t so obviously impacted… (15/16)
… but if Hearts weren’t impacted, I know that I’d still be able to see the difference between right and wrong, and would still be disgusted at the way the @SPFL have handled this. Can you say the same? (16/16)
