I see a lot of trans people criticising stonewall's new Chief Exec Nancy Kelley.

I've got a few points of my own:

https://amp.theguardian.com/society/2020/jun/27/stonewall-new-boss-gender-transgender-rights-nancy-kelley
Kelley talks about not needing to convince people of the same beliefs we share about gender and instead focus on material needs and I fundamentally agree with her (against many of my trans siblings). Autonomy of belief isn't just a necessity, it's an inevitable fact.
That does not however preclude making an effort to educate and provide information for those who are willing to consider it - it's hard to make the case for trans people's needs without some recognition or understanding of us, even allowing for philosophical differences.
As an additional point, I think we as a trans community and the wider gathering of gender misfits need to do more to take leadership in our own issues, to promote our own organisations. In my life so much energy has been wasted trying to get Stonewall to represent us adequately.
The trans liberation movement in the UK *is* growing stronger, we are finding our feet, we don't any longer need to see the likes of big corporate NGOs like Stonewall as our primary opportunity to have a voice - they've often taken money on our behalf and then done it badly.
It's time for us to undo our attachments to existing institutions and start building organisations for ourselves that we can rely on.
