Today I am gonna talk about this song's character, Ruruka (and her friend Ririka)

Just in case you don't know which one is which, Ririka is the pink twin tailed girl from Alkali Underachiever and Ruruka is the yellow short haired girl from Affection Underachiever

Both Ririka and Ruruka are playable characters from a Japanese mobile game called COMPASS. If you don't have any idea what COMPASS is, you can read my thread about it here https://twitter.com/na_reverie/status/1274300804468359169?s=19

In COMPASS universe, Ririka and Ruruka are characters from a popular magical girl TV show. It's called Magical Girl Ririka Ruruka. The show is so popular that other playable character in this game is a fan of it. But let's focus on Ririka and Ruruka for now

Anyway Magical Girl Ririka Ruruka is a reference to Pretty Cure and Madoka Magica. There are a lot of similarities between them. Here's an explanation from COMPASS wiki

First of all let's talk about this official COMPASS animated short

It depicts the last few minutes of a Magical Girl Ririka Ruruka episode, hence the anime ED (or is it OP?) at the end of the video

If you're too lazy to watch it, here's a summary:

Ririka and Ruruka are trying to defeat their enemy, Magical Square, but it's too strong for them. So Ririka uses everyone's magical stick and transforms to Goddess of Fate Evolution to defeat it once and for all

Unfortunately things don't go well with both of them

In another animated short called Magical Ririka Ruruka -final magic- it is shown that Magical Square isn't defeated completely and swallows Ririka instead. Ruruka, afraid of losing her friend, tries to save Ririka

Tbh I haven't watched this short yet. Unlike the first video, Magical Ririka Ruruka -final magic- was only shown in COMPASS 3rd anniversary event and hasn't been uploaded to youtube

Luckily one of my compass mutual watched it and told me more of the story (thanks Yuzu!)

Here's a not so accurate English translation:

While Ririka is inside of Magical Square, she sees "herself" mocking and blaming at her for relying too much on Ruruka. She even sees "Ruruka" doing the same to her, saying that Ririka is a burden

This actually reminds me how Alkali Underachiever mentions about being insecure a few times. Perhaps Ririka is seeing things due to her insecurities and despair for not being able to defeat Magical Square

In the meantime, Ruruka is having a hard time too. Darkness envelops her while she tries to save Ririka from Magical Square

It is mentioned that Ruruka thinks Ririka is everything to her, so she'll do everything to protect Ririka

With her determination, Ruruka successfully saves Ririka from Magical Square

Then the scene changes to real world. Real world Ruruka says "I hope we'll meet again, Ririka" and the anime ED plays

However there's a scene after it, showing Ririka and Ruruka at school together

Does that mean Ririka and Ruruka died and got reincarnated as normal girls? Sadly we have no info for that, so we can only make theories

Alright now let's talk about Ruruka

Everything about her is related to Ririka. Her theme song mentions Ririka. Her quotes in the game mentions Ririka. She even has special ability which is triggered whenever Ririka dies in the game

Anyway I think it's very interesting that some Ruruka's quotes are about "searching for Ririka"

Is this supposed to be a reference to the animated short where Ruruka says that she wants to meet Ririka again? Or maybe I am just thinking too deep...

Sadly we don't have any explanation on why she cares about Ririka so much other than "they're friends"

I wish COMPASS told us more but to be fair they never give full backstory to any of their characters so

Though judging on how Ririka and Ruruka's story is a reference to Madoka Magica, I think we can assume that Ririka is her first friend and so she feels grateful to Ririka. She wants to protect Ririka in return

This desire to protect then turns into something else...

Personally I think love is not the right word to describe her feeling towards Ririka. I think obsession is the right word. She literally goes "yandere mode" for Ririka. She even keeps photos of Ririka to herself

Affection Underachiever also shows how obsessive she can be towards Ririka. I am sure you know what I am talking about right?

There's also this very interesting card featuring "yandere" Ruruka. It's called Witch of Dreams Liberation ★ Ruruka

This card is supposed to be a pair with Ririka's card called Goddess of Fate Evolution ☆ Ririka

We see Ririka as Goddess of Fate in their animated short but strangely we don't see anything about Ruruka being a witch...

I wonder if Ruruka's card is only for the sake of pair with Ririka / references to Madoka Magica? Could anyone please tell me more about Witch Ruruka?

So TLDR Ruruka (the girl from Affection Underachiever) is a magical girl who cares about Ririka (the girl from Alkali Underachiever) so much that she may look like a yandere. Hence the repeated Ririka line in Affection Underachiever
