(3-6) These are a few incidents, I covered personally, which forced State to appoint three judicial commissions. Madam Jayalalithaa, refused a judicial commission on Sankaralingapuram violence when demanded. Besides many, many custodial (3-4)
(4-6) deaths, lathi charges, police oppressions, violation of human rights etc.,were routinely recorded. How some of preventive detention laws were made inhuman and how they were abused against voices of dissent, were detailed. Reporting aside, many incidents in the.. (4-5)
(5-6) past, such as Muthukulathor firing, Kovilpatti firing, MBC stir firing, Mancholai firing, Paramakudi firing, etc, were not to be missed. Still many more incidents could not be included - lack of space. Police felt comfortable in "madam's" regime though DMK and AIADMK (5-6)
(6-6 last) patronised them. 'Humanising' the force however remains an elusive subject. The Supreme court had issued 10- commandment charter on custody procedures. Cr. P.C has been amended. Nothing noted. The moral of the thread is - it is not a goodie goodie state. (6-6)
