Thomas Riker taking off his fake sideburns is the best five seconds in all of Star Trek. Sorry.
It& #39;s so wild for so many reasons.
1. It& #39;s meant to reveal that he& #39;s not Will but Thomas, but in the TNG episode with Thomas, he had the same beard as Will. He didn& #39;t have a goatee. It& #39;s like he& #39;s making a big reveal but this indicates nothing for the audience.

2. Why would he even do that? Why not just grow a beard for the mission?
3. If he showed up with less facial hair than Will, nobody would be like "Hey, waaaait a minute. The real Will Riker always has this much facial hair at all times. J& #39;accuse!"

4. Does this mean Thomas Riker started wearing different facial hair prior to this mission to differentiate himself from Will? Even if that& #39;s true, how many people on DEEP SPACE NINE would know that? There is no need for this disguise.
5. It& #39;s riskier wearing the disguise than not wearing the disguise. What if he applied it incorrectly and it fell off? "Yes, Kira, I am wearing fake sideburns, but did you ever consider... [smoke bomb] so long, suckeriwasthomasrikerthiswholetimebyeee"
