personally, my issue with new age religion is that there’s a lot of prosperity preaching going around, and it’s packaged in such a pretty way that it’s easy to fall prey to it.
a lot of churches have made it about *us* and not Christ - that’s referred to as narcigesis (inserting yourself into the Bible, in a way that makes you the main character instead of Jesus).
so we’re being told, “do this and Christ will do this for you,” yet the Gospel’s main focus is how we should sacrifice ourselves for Him. we’re being told that God will help us write *our* story (“speaking things into existence”) rather than us writing Jesus’ story on this earth
we’re constantly being given checklists and being told that if we tick off the boxes then we’re saved, yet God’s already done the saving. what’s left now is to grow our faith through Scripture, which will produce love, which will in turn produce works/fruits of the Spirit
generally - our churches, new ones and traditional ones alike, have made us walk on eggshells; we make sure we “don’t do the wrong things”, and that detracts from building a relationship with God and spreading His Gospel (something that I feel isn’t taught enough nowadays)
now we’ve become very “i’m claiming this, manifesting that” as if our lives are in our hands, but that’s not even faith anymore. and the issue there is if things don’t go your way you might end up being bitter towards God - yet you were the one trying to write your own destiny
in conclusion - make sure to take a hold of your faith. don’t be easily swayed. ask questions. protect yourself by being responsible for what you’re exposing yourself to and see if it aligns with the Word.
