They were greeted in cities like Chicago, with redlining, predatory mortgages, & dilapidated project buildings that local govt paid little attention to until demolition decades later. When Dr. King marched in Chicago 1000s showed up to oppose him. He said 100s did in the South
The relocation of public housing residents was handled poorly and 100s of schools were closed in black and brown neighborhoods this century. The crime as a result has been handled by a police department that cost the city more than a half billion in settlements just last decade
So for those who now want to fight systemic racism, learn way more about it than the information in this thread and don't forget the dead soldiers, especially those too young to know that they were in a fight
