So my Twitter friends, 33 years ago my mother decided to take her own life, for reasons only known to her. I would really appreciate an RT of this thread to honour the person she was. A thread 1/
In the late 80& #39;s we lived in the south of France in a high rise block of flats, which overlooked the communal area including the communal bins. These bins would be regularly visited by a gent with no home 2/
Every time, upon seeing him my mother would empty the fridge & cupboards and send me out to him with carrier bags full of food whilst she would look on from the balcony as I gave him the bags, I was 7 or 8 years old 3/
About 10 years after her death I returned, and struck up conversation with an old man who was clearly without a home, I shared a cigarette with him, not knowing this was the same gent from all those years ago /4
As we spoke it slowly dawned on me that he was the same gent, and I asked him if he remembered the lady that used to send her son out with bags off food
/5
And of course he did, as he recounted it to me he called her the "English Lady" with genuine reverence. It was an odd moment for me, she was gone, but the kindness she had shown to a total stranger lived on /6
That& #39;s who my mum was, a truly kind and compassionate person who cared about other humans, regardless of skin colour or status. Her name was Sandra and her kindness lives on https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤" title="Rotes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Rotes Herz"> /7
Twitter can be an awful place but it can also be an overwhelming place of beauty, connection and love. Thank you for all the nice words about my mum, it is deeply touching that she is being remembered for her kindness by total strangers https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤" title="Rotes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Rotes Herz">
There are some really good books that touch on all aspects of Mental Health & Trauma, here are a few that have helped me tremendously not just in understanding others but also myself.
