making as many analyzations about symbolism in Utena as possible, a thread.
These shots represent Utena's alienation from her peers, and from society, she's social distancing.
This shot repesents Saionji, Touga, and Anthy's relationships to one another,Touga and Saionji are looking at each other, Anthy is looking at neither of them, this is because they are all gay and hate each other.
Wakaba tackling Utena while she's looking out the window is a reflection of Wakaba's sub-conscious resentment, possibly even scorn for Utena.
The distance from Saionji and his classmates, again, represents alienation, Saionji's confidence in placing himself above everyone else, and everyone else's feelings of looking down upon him, as they expect his inevitable downfall.
Utena and Wakaba refusing to look each other in the eyes is representative of their toxic friendship, and their false sincerity towards one another.
Utena's grasp of Saionji's kendo stick is a representation of her entering the the world of the duelist, sinking down to his level by using the same tactics as him, to accomplish the same goal.
Utena stuffing her junk in the closet is a metaphor for her emotional baggage, Anthy cleaning the room by herself is clearly a representation of her role as a servant.
Chu-Chu is a representation of Anthy herself, what she is perceived as by others, a helpless creature, not deserving of autonomy or choice, his introduction reflects this, as Utena and Anthy's viewpoints clash, he incidentally puts himself in harms way, and requires Utena's aid.
.... This is further referenced by Saionji's cruel treatment of him. Chu-Chu is also a representation of how the studio needed merchandise money in order to fund this project.
Saionji now trains with a real sword, signifying his intent to kill, the kids gloves have offcially come off.
The Chu-Chu symbolism goes deeper, in this scene, he is denied cake, toyed with by Utena, until the actual Anthy enters the room, and bears witness to the scene, Utena explains that her decision to defend Anthy in the duel was born only for her desire to protect Chu-Chu.
She's telling Anthy, this is further examplified by Chu-Chu offering a strawberry to Utena, demonstrating his value, said strawberry is half-eaten, as it is NOT a mutually beneficial relationship, we also never see her eat the strawberry, implying she does not want/need it.
Utena's refusal to acknowledge Chu-Chu as a frien to Anthy, dis her refusal to acknowledge Anthy as her own person. Chu-Chu getting stuck in the glass is a representation of Anthy's role, it's uncomfortable, but if she leaves, she'll be scarred.
Touga claims to be a "Totally normal boy", he is not a normal boy.
Anthy selecting the Joker while playing cards with Chu-Chu represents her foolish desires to continue living as the Rose Bride, her refusal to challenge the order she's resigned her life to.
Touga and Nanami doing this creep-o shit is why you shouldn't trust gay people.
