a thread on common misconceptions about christianity + lgbt and why christians can be lgbt:

i will have to trigger warning this thread accordingly as parts will be triggering.

to start with to clear confusion:
i am a christian BISEXUAL woman. i went to a christian school (kind of lmao) and i do follow parts of the bible.

first of all, the bible DOES. NOT. say gay is wrong.

in the old testemant there are only 2 passages that directly mention homosexuality. those are genesis 19 and leviticus 18&20.
in the new testemant another passage, romans 1:18-32 also directly mentions homosexuality. ++

to summarise a rather disturbing passage, in genesis 19 there is the story of sodom and gomorrah. this is where the terms ‘sodomite’ and ‘sodomy’ originates. it has been highly associated with biblical condemnation of homosexual sex. HOWEVER ++

this story is actually about gang rape. the men of sodom seeks to rape two visitors (who are actually angels).
long story short: this passage is about sexual violence and rape being harshly condemned and so god destroys the entire town w sulphur and fire +

that is why it is miscommunicated that god burnt the town down due to the homosexual act. he didn’t. he burnt it down due to the other sins involved.

however, in leviticus (18:22 and 20:13) they DO call a man lying with another man an ‘abomination’. BUT AGAIN, ++

this is a miscommunication. in this passage this text is, in context, about a married man laying with another man, therefore the sin is adultery, not homosexuality.
yes it does call it an abomination but here is a list of other things that the bible calls an abomination: ++

• having sex with a woman during menstruation
• eating pork

things that are banned according to the bible:
• wearing mixed-fabric clothing
• interbreeding animals of different species
• tattoos
• mocking the blind by putting obstacles in their way
• trimming your beard

evidently, the bible has a lot of ancient laws that is overlooked by a large majority. a lot make good sense (that i haven’t mentioned) but a lot are simply not that well followed. therefore, if other things are looked over, homosexuality should be aswell. ++

within the new testemant, the main point to be seen is that it is more recognised for a male to be attracted to a male. the thing that was less accepted was one of the men having to take ‘the role of the woman’ aka, being the bottom.
ALSO!! sex in general is not very ++

accepted by the bible. especially not before marriage, and the bible puts emphasis on most men engaging in sex with other men BEFORE settling with a woman, which is partially why it was considered sin.

when looking at the entire context against the texts on their own++

god does NOT hate homosexuality, it isn’t a sin.

god is benevolent and all forgiving, he created us all in his imagine with his love. the most famous quote is love thy neighbour. above all else, shouldn’t that be what we do?++

i understand this video is not about hating lgbt, but still, saying she lead a ‘life of sin’ is factually off. maybe she ‘did’ if she was having intercourse and doing drugs. but if she is saying that because she was lgbt, she is wrong.

an example of progression in the church:

the church in my town contacted the arch bishop to ask to be allowed to have gay marriage legal in the church. this was organised by a LOT of the members of the church, majority not being lgbt themselves but standing for what’s right.

OH and another thing, this is just my religion. i understand there are many other religions and i respect every single one and would love to learn more and have a conversation about them and this isn’t me forcing ++

my beliefs upon anyone. in fact that’s the last thing i would want to do.

christians follow guidelines of the bible, with our own interpretations. i believe other religions that follow the bible such as catholics follow it extremely strictly but i am NOT educated enough on it.++

honestly, god would be ashamed if he saw the state of this planet and the people on it hating and k*lling eachother.
