Shane Dawson has done more makeup for his blackface videos, than he's ever done conventional makeup looks for Youtube videos. I'm not saying people don't change, but I just wanted to point that out.
If you were a highschooler and one of your classmates came to school in blackface, it wouldn't be unreasonable for you to dismiss that person as a racist and move on. People can change without you accepting their apology or caring that they've moved on.
I dunno why people give Youtube leeway that they wouldn't give strangers, when those Youtubers know you just as well as a stranger on the street. I understand rehabing your friends but some influencer? I don't get it.
Personally, there are a handful of Youtubers whom still have thriving careers, whom people still support who have done racist shit and I haven't checked in on them forever because i don't really care if they've grown or changed, there are other Youtubers to watch.
I've said and done some shitty things and I probably will continue to do so. You're not irrational for wanting to disengage from my content if I've hurt you. I think it takes so much more strength to move on from something you loved, than sit and justify it while it's problematic
And i'm gonna need those of you, ,still suspending your disbelief to just stop being shocked when people turn out to not be great, afterall... It's like people who were friends with tana and jeffree and were shocked they did racist shit... duh.
And to be clear, I'm more than positive that people who were popular for being edgy in the 2000s have probably changed their feelings about that stuff now, but that's different than what I'm talking about here. I don't get why people care and give leeway.
