So, I'll admit I have NEVER gotten into streamer culture. I don't watch streams more than a couple times a year, and that's for specific stuff, like reveals or release streams.
I don't follow personalities, I don't really buy into the culture. So maybe I just don't understand..

But I noticed a common theme in a lot of the stories that have come forward - predatory streamers insulting, belittling others on-stream for "content".
Why?
Is this really that popular? Do Non-predatory streamers cut other down all the time, too? Or was it just the horrid ones?

Even when I was at the modest "height" of my raiding career, I did not mock and cut down other players and their gameplay. Even when I'd run dungeons on alts on LFD, I would notice people struggling, ask if they wanted advice, and helped them to learn their class.
This even lead to me joining small guilds on alts and helping them clear old content, teaching them raid strategies. That meant wiping repeatedly with players that played at a lower level than I did at the time. I never spent time cutting those people down.
The worst I ever did was, during ICC, in a guild that had repeatedly stated they wanted the hardcore treatment, I liked them up outside of ICC and did a gem/enchant check, and told a bunch of people they weren't raiding that day.
And it was a shitty thing to do. I felt horrible.

So how the fuck do people stream and insult, tear others down while they're live and others are watching them? How do people do this to people streaming WITH them?
We should be working to bring eachother up, to help those who are struggling, when they want that help.

I get that conflict sells, but yeesh. How pathetic do you have to be to cut others down in front of hundreds or thousands of other people just to feel good about yourself?
Raise your community up. Don't stir them up into an angry mob and teach them to shit on their friends.
Fuck.

I remember other raiders in my team pumping their numbers and insulting others. I never understood why high end raiders and personalities felt it necessary to rip apart people who are still learning or trying. Can we please do away with this mentality? It's so fucking toxic.
I understand competition and the strive for constant improvement - but being competitive doesn't mean you have to shit on others. You can both race for top DPS in a fight while simultaneously helping others to be better players.
And I get - when we're younger, more inexperienced, and excited, that competitive nature might get the better of people. That's why we need to be good examples, and teach people to help others not tear others down. We shouldn't glorify that behavior for viewers nor progression.
