Right then, in honour of the Royal Marines Commando's new uniforms and unit flash - who is ready for a thread of ally photos showing the variations of the wartime Commando flash that inspires the newest version? https://twitter.com/garyedgreen/status/1276809361050996736
This photo illustrates quite well what the new flash was inspired by. The Commando flash was added beneath the original Royal Marines flash. Note also the Commando Brigade patch.

Cracking bears on the Padre.

There was actually a bit of flash variation, some of which can be seen in this photo.

This photo nicely illustrates the standard Royal Marines flash warn on the Battle dress blouse shoulder - the Command flash would be added beneath it. This photo was apparently taken when the beret was introduced c.1943.

Another good photo of RM Commandos who fought at Salerno posing with souvenirs back at Deal.
Note the chap on the end with the flash which inspire the new, non-curved, patch.

This photo taken in Germany '45, features men of 45 RM Commando. Note the chap on the left with the curved flash and his missing 'Commando' tape and the chap on the right with the earlier straight flash. Not sure when the change was made between the two (not an expert alas)!
Finally, here's another photo of men from 45 RM Commando posing with souvenirs. The chap on the left has the later curved flashes and is holding an unusual firearm.
