Have just watched Cats with plenty of wine and found it unbearable. Nearly thought of switching it off, here are some thoughts on what mistakes were made.
The film spends about 30-40 minutes before getting to any kind of plot whatsoever. Nothing is explained to the viewer. There is nothing that explains what is actually going on...
...or why Idris Elba is a bad guy. No-one explains why the Dame Judi Dench get to choose one cat to go to this weird special place once a year.
Nothing, I mean nothing, is given any kind of context. I genuinely found it confusing to try and work out *what is actually going on*. I haven’t seen the musical, and so just didn’t know what was going on.
The main woman, this Victoria cat, does the same face for the entire 110 minute(!) runtime. A sort of slightly shocked and surprised look.
It’s also way too long. And about half of every song is the same final lyrics repeated over and over again.
I regret spending 1h45 watching this.
