recently someone i stanned in a fandom i used to be a part of, said some things that were very hurtful to the trans community. my trans friends can’t even look at him anymore without feeling anxious. so, i unstanned this person. yes, i looked up to him. he inspired me and-
-he helped me through a lot of personal issues. however, despite me looking up to him i could still see that his actions were extremely hurtful, his apology was shoddy at best. it was a difficult decision but i care more about people who have been hurt than the person who did it
- what i am trying to say with this thread is that yes it is hard to unstan someone who you look up to, who has helped you a lot. but sharon needles is a predator. and if you defend her just because she “helped you” then you need to take a long hard look at yourself.
unstanning someone who is extremely problematic but you looked up to might be an inconvenience and a hardship for you, but it helps your account become a safe space for a lot of people who may find that person uncomfortable. and that’s all i‘ll say
