To all my Kurdish followers I want to make people more aware of the racism we’ve all experienced for being Kurdish as I’m constantly seeing people belittle our struggles. so please add to this tweet so we can make a thread of everything we’ve all endured

In turkey (we didn’t go for a holiday, we had a layover on our way to Kurdistan) we were refused service at a restaurant because when asked where we were from my dad (who is a very proud Kurd) said we were Kurdish.

My dad was asked by a member of staff at an airport where he visited in turkey on his way back home and he accidentally slipped out that he went to Kurdistan and she responded with “that doesn’t exist there is not such thing, never come back here again you are not welcome”

In 6thform we had a cultural day so I brought my Kurdish flag into school and this ataturk worshipping turkish fat cunt kept telling me that Kurdistan doesn’t exist and that I should bin my flag (he said all that completely unprovoked I never used to speak to him)

When I was younger there was an incident in turkey where the authorities bombed a Kurdish village and many innocent Kurdish civilians died. My dad overheard a turkish mum at my primary school say she didn’t care that they died they were probably terrorists anyway

In school an Iraqi girl once told me that her mum always says to herself and her siblings “are you Kurdish” as an insult (this is a common slur iraqis use against Kurds). And she laughed as she told me

When we arrived in the airport for our layover in istambul from Slemani the airport staff immediately greeted us with hostility and told us to line up properly because we are now in turkey where people are civilised. I mean we literally just got off the plane

When my dad was in Bagdad University all the Kurds tried to throw a Newroz (Kurdish new year) party so the Iraqi student union turned off the electricity in the uni hall where the party took place

In slemani during Saddams time two of his soldiers broke into my dads aunties house and beat them all up including their young children

In 1991 at this check point in Iran the security guards took my dad aside and decided to take the piss and blindfold him while they pushed him downstairs just to laugh at him and just tormented him for no reason at all
