you didn’t get it/do it on your own if your parents helped you and that’s OK
If you had help that’s a privilege and a blessing, why identify with hardship that isn’t your story?
I feel like as a community we over-identify with “not having help” or “doing it alone” and that ain’t it. At all.
If you had to get everything on your own as a Black person, I feel you. I commend you but I’m also sorry. You deserved more support.
Like yeah it’s cool, it’s inspiring. Sometimes absolutely necessary, but not all the time. We are not a people who thrive doing everything alone.
the whole idea of your kid being “grown” at 18 and this not needing support anymore (financially, physically etc.) in Black families is so trash and detrimental
We need eachother. No way around that. We go further with support, with community. Always.
I just don’t believe Black folks should have to struggle anymore, in any avenue
