the racism in kpop, and why blackpinks ganesha scene is not something to joke about : a thread of some facts and opinions
first, i want to address i am not hindi. i do not speak for people who are. i am only saying what i think, from what i’ve seen and how i feel
in advance, sorry for any errors, please correct me if i am wrong on something. for people who may not know, ganesha is a hindi god, who is god of the removing of obstacles, meaning people worship ganesha before a job interview or a competition, etc.
now why this is important, is becuase already in kpop, hindi/muslim/poc are already drowned out, and many times experience racism even in the kpop community. blackpinks ganesha scene is another example of that.
from what i have learned, please correct me if i am wrong, Ganesha Murti should be places away from the entrance, above your feet, and preferably the northeast corner of the house. i’m sure there are many more ways you should place Ganesha Murti, but this is from what i’ve seen
while many hindu stans, and people in general, have had lots of racism against their culture and religion. how blackpink and yg can place Ganesha Murti in such a way, is extremely disrespectful and rude. i am not saying it is the girls fault, but ygs artistic team should have +
been more careful of where they placed Ganesha Murti, and honestly i think they should not have used Ganesha Murti as a prop in the first place. it has left a very negative impact on kpop, and even i, as a chinese christian, can understand this is very rude and disrespectful
please let me know if i said anything wrong, as i’m still learning about the culture. i personally want to say i’m so sorry, even if it wasn’t my fault, to anyone who felt offended by it (which is understandable). i hope this helped understand the situation better!
