I don't know Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi ( @Olusegunverdict). Never heard of him, worked with him, nor know his good, gentle manner, or uprightness. What I do know is Mr. Adeniyi did something unethical to put names and words of African feminists on his book cover without our consent. 1/

Mr. Adeniyi's book is on lecturers/administrators assaulting, coercing female students into sex threatening their grades. Mr. Adeniyi didn't write his book with African feminists, but put our names and public statement on the cover implying our collaboration, support, approval 2/

Two weeks ago, I asked Mr. Adeniyi why he exploited the names, words, and reputations of women to add legitimacy and sell a book about the exploitation of women. He apologized, said some on the list saw a draft of the book, and he won't include the statement in future prints. 3/

Mr. Adeniyi never said names of women who supposedly saw the draft, never said if they saw the cover before publication, and none ever came forward. He also didn't do anything until feminists with a larger platform came again to ask him the same questions and others retweeted. 4/

Since the matter and criticism reached a wide audience, Mr. Adeniyi has made a public apology saying he won't just take our names and words of future prints, he also won't sell the current prints, just distribute them for free. With our words and names still on the cover. 5/

Mr. Adeniyi's goodness, intentions, apologies aside, my concern is with his actions and their impact. The only thing feminist about his salacious, sensationalist book are names and words of women he slapped on the cover, forever associating us with something none of us saw. 6/

Our words were public, but Mr. Adeniyi used the statement and our names deceptively to insinuate collaboration and support we never gave. One of the African feminists from the list, OluTimehin Adegbeye ( @OhTimehin) has communicated directly to him what to do moving forward. /end
