So, @PaperClippe and I were having this conversation yesterday on why we both enjoy/can’t stand Will Ferrell. Some of his movies? +chefs kiss+ And some of his movies? +changes channel+ But his roles are very polarizing, he’s either amazing or he’s amazing but you just can’t.
So I bring this up, because I had this realization.
Well, no. Maybe realization is too much, but like my known thoughts and opinions and facts all settled together and I went, huh. Like when the magic eye picture finally reveals the schooner.

And the rest of this tweet thread has zero to do with movie references. (That’s probably a lie.) And everything to with politics. (That’s not a lie.)
So, we, those who were opposed to Trump and likely voted for Hilary (I did, but I can’t speak for everyone), saw the events of the past four years as inevitable.
I remember clear saying that I hope he is one of the few Presidents to serve only a single term.

I also remember saying that anything he does, I hope can be undone.
With a up-to-date total of 2.51 million Covid cases in the US and 127K deaths (and these are the reported numbers, remember), that hope has long been crushed. Those numbers are not static, they are growing.

The condoned violence against Black Americans. Against all People of Color. The children held in cages at the border. Parents held in cages and separated from their families. The healthcare protections removed from transgender people. How did we get +here+?
Methodically.
Maliciously.
Intentionally.

People color Trump as mentally ill - and unless you are his actual doctor, then you do not get to make armchair diagnoses.
They color him as a psychopath or sociopath. Again, unless you are his psychiatrist, then you don’t get to make armchair diagnoses.
Or as a bumbling dufus.

The first two are particularly bad as, and as someone with mental illness, it presents a stigma we just don’t need.
Mental illness is like any illness, it needs to be treated. For some, a change in diet and exercise will do the trick. For some, they need medication.

I’m like a Type 1 diabetic. My brain just doesn’t produce certain chemicals. So I buy mine. The diabetic needs insulin, I need sertatonin. It’s just a weird organ thing.
But that’s mental illess. It’s literally just an organ - your brain - going, WELP, gonna need some help here.

That doesn’t appear to be Trump’s issue.
He is very explicitly aware of what he does, the effects his actions will have, and he orchestrates his movements very precicely. Those are not hallmarks of someone with mental illness.
Now onto the next point. Our President Goofus.

It's like, "Mom, hi. I didn't get that pilot. By the way, I'm Goofy. Send more money."
So this is back to where this thread began.
The talent it takes to look like an idiot, while actually being completely competent and laying the ground work in such a way, so as to make ridiculous things excusable, even acceptable by the people who are fans.

And this is where all my thoughts went, I knew this. But I didn’t know this. But I knew this?
Trump’s entire 3.5 years has been a slow burn. All the misdirects, all the lies, miscommunications, firings and hirings have, yes been due to his ill-qualifications, but also been more.

It set him up as someone we viewed as incompetent to run the country. He +is+ incompetent to run the country, make no mistake. But in setting those precedents, it allowed him to push further.
His supporters were more inclined to give him a pass because he’s a businessman.

He’s not a politician.
Of course he’s going to make mistakes, it’s expected!
This friends, is why the Republican party should have NEVER let him run in the first place. They didn’t do their job.
His act of idiocy just made his decisions easier for them to accept.
