A (slightly long) thread on ways to support your favourite creators! Gonna try and mention a few platforms with ways you can help the content creators you love. Feel free to drop your links to your stuff in the comments, or suggest other ways to help if I miss anything! (1/18)
P.S I'm no social media or algorithm expert, these are just ways that I know of that can help, and ways I know sometimes we forget! (2/18)
TWITTER
- comment on their posts. Apparently it helps with tweet visibility and engagement!
- Retweet. Not sure if quote RTs help more or less, but either way if you love what they do, share it! Make sure you comment too!
- if you like it, your followers might too (3/18)
(Cont.) So if you can RT or talk about why you like a creator it can really help them out! (4/18)
YOUTUBE
- make sure you hit subscribe and if possible turn on your notifications!
- remember to click 'like' on the video. Alot of us forget that but it can really help.
- leave a comment. Encouraging comments always make creators happy!
- check them out/ follow on other (5/18)
(Cont.) Social media and platforms.
- if they have affiliate links for something you're already going to buy, use them. They cost you nothing extra and help towards keeping that creator able to make more content! (6/18)
TWITCH
- make sure you hit follow! (We've all been guilty of forgetting!)
- even if it's just to say hi, consider talking in chat. Higher average chatters is SUPER helpful.
- catch as many streams as possible for as long as possible. Average viewers is also really (7/18)
(Cont.) Important for some metrics. Avoid muting on the twitch player if you want it in the background but no sound as twitch stops counting you as a viewer (or so I've heard), you can mute the tab on browser though (or so I've heard). (8/18)
- Join their other social networks!
- if you're able to sub then consider doing it. While twitch takes half, more subs often means things like more emotes for affiliates and partners which helps them reward the community and helps them grow. It also helps put (9/18)
Money in their pockets which can help fund them making more content!
- alot of streamers (not all) prefer donations through streamlabs/streamelements rather than bits (if you're able to tip) as they get more of the cut (and dont have to wait for a twitch payout). Consider (10/18)
Using these instead of bits if you were going to drop them a tip, or ask first if they prefer one to the other!
- Share and comment on their go-live notifications on twitter etc... help bring people to them who might like their content!
(11/18)
- be willing to sit through ads. Unless you're a sub you'll likely encounter ads when you first come into a stream. Dont leave during this (MANY people do). You might even encounter during stream ads, stick around, it helps, I promise. (12/18)
- Make clips! If you enjoyed something or there was a cool moment, clip it! Not only does this tell streamers which bits you really enjoyed, but they can share them later to help promote their stream, or with the community for those that might have missed it! Clipping (13/18)
Your own streams after the fact can take ages, and streamers might forget a moment that their community found hilarious. (14/18)
ITCH / DTRPG / DMs GUILD
- leave a review. Try for 5* (anything under 4 is often considered 'bad' by some algorithms). Use the written part of the review to mention any constructive criticism if you must.
- if its pay-what-you-want, consider leaving a small tip (15/18)
(Cont.) Rather than downloading for free. Or download for free and go back and leave a tip via 'buying' it again or through something like Ko-fi if you enjoyed it. Every little helps! Creating written content takes a long time that self published creators (16/18)
(Cont.) Rarely get the money back for and many under charge for amazing work.
- talk about it if you enjoyed it. Let people know about it. Drop a link on your social! If you're able to tweet or message the creator about how much you liked it (without being creepy) do it! (17/18)
That's about it, but like I said, I'm no expert. If there are other ways you can think of, drop them in the comments. Drop links to your awesome content below too! We're all making cool stuff so let's share and help each other! (18/18)
