This is a really dark moment for news media. And yet in RI& #39;s burgeoning alternative/grassroots media scene, I see sparks of hope. A short thread:
. @jul1arock& #39;s just-launched "A Little Rhody" newsletter is a promising new addition. https://rhody.substack.com/ ">https://rhody.substack.com/">...
Followers of my Twitter know that I& #39;m a big fan of (and now a contributor to) @steveahlquist& #39;s @UpriseRI. https://upriseri.com/ ">https://upriseri.com/">...
I& #39;ve been really impressed with the momentum that @BillBartholomew& #39;s @bartholomewtown has continued to build. https://btown.buzzsprout.com/ .">https://btown.buzzsprout.com/">... He just launched a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/bartholomewtown?fbclid=IwAR2blLhFXlDLSTK4BLe50f8-HjxjrM7Bh82FfiK7pvd_4urSl7FBnwrbipQ.">https://www.patreon.com/bartholom...
And, though they& #39;re hardly newcomers, I would also include the great folks at @ecoRInews in this conversation. https://www.ecori.org/ ">https://www.ecori.org/">...
I don& #39;t have the energy to throw myself as wholeheartedly into local reporting as these folks. (I think I lost that capacity permanently after an 18-month sprint at the @provphoenix.) But I am so damn inspired by, and grateful, for these civic-minded local reporters.
By all means, I think Rhode Islanders should -- financially and otherwise -- support legacy news orgs like @projo and @ThePublicsRadio. But if you have the means, I also endorse supporting the bright, hard-working, and enterprising journalists listed in this thread.
