I do not wish to be unkind but I looked at the Twitter feed of the critic who wrote this hit piece about a teen show & he is a grown man w/ a PhD who just came out as bi last Monday so I find his thoughts on a show about a 16-year-old character not being queer enough rather odd. https://twitter.com/TheAVClub/status/1276877959467618304
How you gonna say "TV should have moved on from presenting this PG-rated version of queerness a decade ago" when you weren't even presenting yourself publicly as queer a week ago?
Again. Not to be unkind. Everyone comes out in their own time. I am happy for him that he is living his truth now. But after going through your own struggle to embrace your queer sexuality, as a grown adult, you owe grace to your fellow younger queers who are doing the same.
I have said this before but queer critics have GOT to stop bringing their personal baggage & resentment about queer kids today having things we didn't as youths to their reviews of LGBTQ media. And you can always tell when someone is doing it. The bitterness is palpable.
They did the same thing to LOVE, SIMON. "This should have come out a decade ago" is a meaningless statement. LOVE, SIMON would not have received a green light a decade ago. Nor would LOVE, VICTOR.

Did y'all know...cultural & social attitudes evolve over time?
I never want to read another review of LGBTQ media, tbh, by anyone who’s thinking has been influenced by Queer Theory.

Queer Theory (which I hate, btw) holds that anything mainstream is inherantly not queer & they just keep beating us over the head with this over & over 🙄
Grown people out here citing Butler & Foucault in their LOVE, SIMON/LOVE, VICTOR reviews and meanwhile all the primary intended audience wants to know is whether the mains are really gay or if it’s queerbait & are there any cute ships on it 🤣😐
Media outlets: for meaningful insight & perspectives on LOVE, VICTOR, please commission reviews by queer Latinx teenagers, people who were once queer Latinx teenagers, or at the very least, people who understand that this in fact groundbreaking & important representation.
