Out of intellectual curiosity, I just did a count and I have *17* things on my plate, counting only multi-step projects that require some executive function on my part to move them forward.
That is too many!
That is too many!
That’s not just research projects, or even just work projects, but it’s not like I have a separate executive function bin for managing my personal life.
And yet, this is STILL an atypically low number due to the weirdness of a pandemic summer where I’m not travelling.

I have no idea if everything on my list would count as an executive-function-taxing task for other folks. No idea! How do other people& #39;s brains, even?
But for me, this is part of a years-long process of accepting that I cannot do All The Things, and that is OKAY.

But also: I am a bit over half a year into a semi-official #ADHD diagnosis*, and I confess that sometimes I wonder how much of this is me and how much of it is the somewhat unreasonable demands for self-directed project management in academia.
* "semi-official" because my doctor was like: there’s no real path for adult testing, and it would be thousands of dollars anyway, but here’s a prescription and we’ll see if it helps. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
While writing this thread I remembered at least 3 more multi-step tasks, so make that 20. Definitely too many. https://twitter.com/bronwyn/status/1276916838748819458">https://twitter.com/bronwyn/s...
