Achraf Hakimi is signing for Inter Milan on a permanent deal. Let’s take a dive into what the youngster has to offer.
The Moroccan improved a lot at his loan spell in Dortmund and developed himself into the best wingback in the world, especially due to his offensive threat.
In 32 games this season in the Bundesliga, the 21-year-old has already scored 5 goals while assisting 10. Even more impressive are his stats in the Champions League where the fullback has scored 4 goals in 8 games.
To no surprise, Lucien Favre has eventually deployed Hakimi in a more advanced role. Last season, Borussia Dortmund operated in a 4-2-3-1 system and used Hakimi primarily at leftback where it was quite obvious that he was a defensive liability.
Many foresaw Hakimi’s productivity as a wingback, but what exactly convinced Favre to play him there?
The outstanding attribute for Hakimi is his athleticism which is so noticeable that he is almost always the fastest player on the pitch. The 21-year old clocked a top speed of 36.2 km/h against Leipzig recently. His threat on the counter lured Favre to use him as a wingback.
Hakimi’s pace is complemented with absurd acceleration. He hits top gear quickly which is advantageous in all areas of play. The effectiveness of his pace however, is what’s earned him much acclaim.
Watching Hakimi‘s movement, you’re almost guaranteed to think he was once a striker. He applies his speed by having perfectly timed runs in behind providing a constant through ball threat for back lines.
As you as can see here, Hakimi starts outwide and passes to Sancho, while making the perfect run through the defense. He finishes the ball with top composure and showcases his admirable movement. https://twitter.com/janp09video/status/1276613752469815296
In terms of wingplay, Lucien Favre developed him into a superb assister. He’s impressive at scanning the box and finding the open teammate for a cutback.

His crosses are hit, more times than none, with perfect weight and timing, but his accuracy is sometimes a bit off.
What makes the move to Inter so appealing is the fact that Conte also uses a system with wingbacks. With the pairing of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, Hakimi will have active runners for his strikers, who are more than capable of supplying the right finish for his crosses.
As you can see in his assist against Frankfurt for Haaland, he makes the perfect run in behind and delivers the perfectly weighted pass into the run of the striker. It looks easy, but the run beforehand needed a lot of intelligence in the first place. https://twitter.com/janp09video/status/1276614305056686080
Aside from his assisting, he has also got a decent shooting technique. He finishes with composure and is usually precise at picking a spot.

He worked on it a lot and as of recent has been developing into a reliable set piece taker as well.
To underline his shooting technique, we have to take a deeper look into his goal against Hannover last season.

Accurate, powerful, and clean. This isn't usual for an average fullback at all. https://twitter.com/janp09video/status/1276613689483890695
Hakimi is a rare weapon in counter attacks in terms of assisting, as well as finishing for his position. His shooting technique allows him to finish from every angle and even his weak foot isn’t much of a weakness. https://twitter.com/janp09video/status/1276617058797735944
Currently, Inter Milan uses Candreva at RWB, who isn't as quick and agile or any where near the attacking threat in Hakimi. They improve their squad tremendously with the reception of a more prolific and frighteningly quick wingback.
It will add more sharpness to Conte’s system, specifically in regards to progressing the ball, while they also over-relied on their midfield to create for their strikers.
Having Brozovic, Eriksen, and likely Tonali, Inter have an array of distribution options in their midfield to complement Hakimi’s use of pace whenever he gets in behind.
Despite highlighting his offensive skills, Hakimi's main job is still to defend - even as a wingback.

His quickness obviously helps him in this regard as it allows for recovery even with his poor positional awareness.
He’s known to get caught out by wingers both directly defending the ball and while off it. Hakimi’s next step in development is concentration and defensive awareness in his own half.
All in all this is a tremendous move for both sides. Hakimi gets a coach renown for having well drilled defensive sides which will improve his game. Conte also gets a dynamic offensive weapon that’s perfect for the system he plays.
