In a 15 secs of fame culture, virality is true power. @tiktok_us has created an engine that produces 100x the viral sensations @youtube does on a daily basis which means it's become our new pop culture machine. It perfectly feeds the social -> traditional media hype cycle.
Sensations are created on TikTok then twitter/daily media drives the story outside of TikTok's walls until traditional news media like the @nytimes is deconstructing the stories that have broader staying cultural impact. Its a perfect pyramid of amplification.
This happened on YT before but at such a less frequent pace because of the algorithmic design. YT gazing is more about Gangnam Style and Pew Die Pie/T-Series record breaking than ephemeral virality. And @instagram for the most part has none of this.
